Heavy smoke report draws firefighters

From Local Sources

HUNTINGBURG — Units of the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department responded Wednesday afternoon when heavy black smoke was reported south of the city.

At least two possible locations for the 2:32 p.m. report were given, but firefighters traced the report to a brush pile fire on Timber Ridge Drive, according to Fire Chief Scott Patberg.

County dispatch had not been notified that there would be a controlled burn in that area, according to the chief.

Four trucks and 12 firefighters were out for about 20 minutes on the run.
