From Local Sources

JASPER — Early registration for the fifth annual Heartland Kids Fun Run and Festival is open through Sunday, Aug. 12. Early registration guarantees a race T-shirt, medal and goodie bag.

The festival will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, at the Dave Buehler Plaza and Jasper Riverwalk with the fun run beginning at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. Registration will continue for the fun run through race day.

Participants are encouraged to complete the Youth Challenge, where kids run and log a total of 12 miles on the race log. Participants turn in the race log at registration and then run the 1.1 kids run on Aug. 31 to complete a kid’s marathon in total miles run. Youth Challenge participants who submit their completed race log at registration will be entered to win a FitBit Ace donated by Jasper Family Dentistry.

The race log can be found online at www.heartlandhalfmarathon.com.

The body, mind and spirit focused festival features many booths, games and music. Beginning at 5 p.m., the community can participate in activities such as a Tae Kwon Do demonstration, face painting, wacky hair station, photo booth, wellness booths, music and games.

Children age 4 through grade eight can register for the fun run by submitting a registration flyer or by visiting www.heartlandhalfmarathon.com.

Proceeds benefit Girls on the Run serving Dubois County. Girls on the Run, an international non-profit, is a positive youth development program designed for girls in grades three through five. For more information about Girls on the Run, visit www.gotrswin.org.
