Hearing no-shows bring warrant arrest

From Local Sources

HUNTINGBURG — Authorities booked a Daviess County man into the Dubois County Security Center Friday night on a warrant issued after he failed to attend court hearings.

The Dubois County Sheriff’s Office charged Matthew A. Lewandowski, 40, Washington, with driving while suspended (prior) after stopping a truck he was driving the night of April 5 in Huntingburg because one of the 2000 Chevrolet Silverado’s headlights was inoperable.

Lewandowski made an initial appearance in Dubois Superior Court but then failed to appear for two subsequent hearings, according to court documents. A warrant for his arrest was issued July 3 and, at 10:44 p.m. Friday, Lewandowski was booked into jail on the active warrant.

During a court appearance Monday, the court granted Lewandowski’s request for pauper counsel and set his next court appearance for Aug. 28.
