Headlight stop brings OWI arrestApril 22, 2019
From Local Sources
JASPER — Police placed a woman into custody early Sunday after a traffic stop.
A Jasper Police Department officer stopped a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier at 12:06 a.m. at 14th and Leopold streets because the driver, Kristina M. Lewis, 33, 1330 Leopold St., Jasper, was driving without headlights.
While speaking with Lewis, an officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and noticed several signs of physical impairment.
Police say Lewis was very uncooperative and refused to perform field sobriety testing and did not give a portable breath test sample.
After she refused further testing, police arrested her on preliminary charges that included a Level 6 felony count of operating while intoxicated (prior) and misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated causing endangerment and operating while suspended (prior). Police say she was also given a warning for no headlights.
Authorities booked Lewis into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:36 a.m.
