Harold John Scheller, 96, of Poseyville, died on Tuesday, January, 5, 2019, at the Linda E. White Hospice House in Evansville.
Harold was a World War II veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corp, receiving an EAME Theater Ribbon with five Bronze Stars. He was born to Arthur and Anita (Steckler) Scheller, Sr. on February 9, 1922 in Vanderburgh County.
He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Church, St. Francis Men’s Club, St. Vincent De Paul and the Poseyville American Legion Post #278.
Harold was a dedicated lifetime farmer establishing his farm in 1954. Harold was an avid sports fan, especially for the St Louis Cardinals, and enjoyed playing cards with his buddies.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Elizabeth (Titzer) Scheller; seven daughters,
Preceding him in death were his parents; siblings, Urban, Arthur Jr., Virgil, Francis, Dorothy Scheller and son-in-law: Tom Russell.Marilyn (Fred) Hirsch, Linda Russell, Judy (Rick) Tenison, Nita (Hal) Reyher, Susie (Gene) Koester, Lavern (Pat) Fleck and Camille (Darrel) Adler; one son, Mike Scheller; one sister, Mary Ann (Carl) Albano; 13 grandchildren, Valorie (Wayne) Dassel, Michelle Hirsch, Derek (Amanda) Reyher, Nick (Cody) Reyher, Mandy Koester, Jennifer (Jason) Long, Kristen Fleck, Matthew (Erica) Fleck, Trevor Fleck, Josh Adler, Ashley (Brian) Heeke, Chris Adler and Jonathan (Casey) Scheller; and eight great-grandchildren, Julia and Cade Dassel, Ozzy, June, Francis and Vivianne Reyher, Silas and Elizabeth Long.
The family would like to thank the staff of Deaconess Hospital Midtown Campus and Linda E. White Hospice House for their dedication in caring for him in his last days.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Poseyville, with burial in the church cemetery. Father Ed Schnur officiating.
Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, 2019, at the Werry Funeral Home in Poseyville, with a rosary/memorial service starting at 2 p.m.
