Gusting winds trigger Ferdinand-area fire

From Local Sources

FERDINAND — A windy Sunday with gusts topping 35 mph resulted in a run by the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department.

Fire Chief John Hoppenjans said firefighters were called to the 5700 block of County Road 750S, north of the Ferdinand State Forest entrance, after a tree fell across power lines, which sparked a grass fire.

Four trucks and 18 firefighters took care of the problem in 15 minutes.

A Dubois Rural Electric Cooperative crew assisted.
