Group concerned about bills to allow larger trucks

From local sources

HUNTINGBURG — Common Council members received information Tuesday from the Coalition Against Bigger Trucks, a national organization currently asking the U.S. Congress to oppose any bills to increase truck size and weight limits. The coalition is concerned about the damage heavier trucks would cause to roads and bridges, Huntingburg Councilman Tim Wehr said. A coalition leader contacted Wehr about the effort.

The coalition would like for the common council to also advocate to legislators opposition to any increases, Wehr said. Council members took the information and said they would review it.

The coalition reached out to the Dubois County Commissioners in May; they are also reviewing the information, but said they’d like to hear from local industry about the matter first before making any decisions.
