Government testing program announced

JASPER — American Legion Post 147 of Jasper announced that The American Legion Americanism and Government Testing Program and the Junior Americanism and Government Testing Program will be conducted in the month of November. The program is sponsored by The American Legion Department of Indiana.

Students from Jasper High School (sophomores through seniors) will be tested during the November test period. The test also is available for home-schooled students. The top male and female student from each grade will receive a check for $100 and also will compete at the district and state level for additional monies. The top state winners per grade will receive a check for $1,000 during The American Legion’s annual convention in Indianapolis during the summer of 2019.

Students from Holy Trinity Catholic School (grades seven and eight) will be tested during the November test period under the Junior Americanism and Government Testing Program. The program is available for students in grades seven and eight and home-schooled students within Dubois County. Each male and female student will receive a post medallion and a post certificate and will compete at the district and state level for additional awards. The top state winners per grade will receive a check for $500 during The American Legion Spring Conference in 2019.

The deadline for requesting testing material is Sept. 28. Students may download the study guide at www.indianalegion.org, click on programs and then click on Americanism and Government. Look for the senior or junior study guide.

The annual testing program allows young men and women the opportunity to receive scholarships based on their knowledge of current events, Indiana and U.S. government and the U.S. Flag.
