Girls on the Run celebrates with 5K

Girls on the Run will celebrate 5 years in Dubois County by hosting its celebratory 5K event this Saturday, April 27, at Jasper Middle School.

Girls on the Run is a physical, activity-based, positive youth development program that uses fun running games and dynamic discussions to teach life skills to girls in third through fifth grade. During the 10-week program, girls participate in lessons that foster confidence, build peer connections and encourage community service while they prepare for an end-of-season celebratory 5K event.

Participation in the 5K event is open to the public and all proceeds from the event will benefit Girls on the Run serving Dubois County. More than 400 participants are anticipated, including program participants, their family and friends and community members. Registration is $20 and includes an event T-shirt while supplies last.

Participants will begin at the middle school track, follow the Portersville Road sidewalk to Ackerman Road and back to Jasper Middle School. Drivers in the area are asked to take caution.

Packet pick-up and race day registration will be from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Saturday at the Jasper Middle School athletic entrance. The event will begin at 9 a.m. and early arrival is suggested. For more information about the event, how to register and volunteer opportunities, visit
