Six eighth-grade Cadette Girl Scouts from Troop 357 completed their Silver Award Project and held a dedication ceremony on Sunday, April 28.

The team designed and built a Little Free Library Box and dedicated it to the families of Jasper. The Little Free Library Box is located at the main entrance to the Jaycee Park, 1411 Bartley St., Jasper. The Scouts were sponsored by the Jasper Parks and Recreation Department and were granted permission from the Jasper Parks Board and Mayor Dean Vonderheide to install the library box at the Jaycee Park.

The Scouts modeled the library box in honor of the newly refurbished Little White School House, recently moved from its original location in the county near Ireland and now located near downtown Jasper. The Scouts applied for and received a grant from the Dubois County Endowment Foundation for half of the cost of the project. The Scouts earned the remaining funds through hosting events for local Girl Scouts and scooping ice cream at their booth during the Dubois County 4-H Fair.

The Scouts completed a book donation drive at Jasper Middle School and collected more than 600 donated books for starting inventory for the Little Free Library.
