Germany to present Lugar with highest honorMay 8, 2013

INDIANAPOLIS — Former Sen. Richard Lugar is collecting another honor.
The Lugar Center, his Washington-based nonprofit, says German President Joachim Gauck has decided to bestow on Lugar the Grand Cross of the Order of Merit. The presentation of Germany’s highest honor will be made by German Ambassador to the U.S. Peter Ammon in Washington on Wednesday evening.
Ammon says the German Grand Cross is in recognition of Lugar’s “tireless efforts to further deepen German-American relations” and Lugar’s work on nuclear reduction and arms control.
Lugar retired from the Senate in January after six terms representing Indiana.
