George F. Hoffman, 82, Haubstadt, died Friday, April 26, 2013, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Evansville.
He was born in Jasper on Aug. 2, 1930, to Ferdinand and Coletta (Daeschle) Hoffman.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Hoffman; daughter Kathryn Hoffman of Haubstadt; two sons, Tim Hoffman and wife Deonna of Poseyville and Richard Hoffman of Raleigh, N.C.; two brothers, Andrew Hoffman and wife Beth of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Ambrose Hoffman and wife Patty of Jasper; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Rosann Kuper and Catherine Verkamp, and a brother, Thomas Hoffman.
Mr. Hoffman was a retired teacher and principal at Fort Branch High School and vice principal at Gibson Southern High School. He retired from the U.S. Marines. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2714, Haubstadt Knights of Columbus and American Legion Post 194, Military Officers Association of America, Haubstadt High School Alumni Association, Haubstadt Somerfest Committee and Haubstadt Area Historical Society. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a past Haubstadt Town Board president.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. CDT Tuesday in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Haubstadt.
Burial will be in the church cemetery. VFW Post 2714 and American Legion Post 194 will conduct military graveside rites.
Friends may call from 2 to 8 p.m. CDT today at Stodghill Funeral Home in Fort Branch and after 9 a.m. CDT Tuesday at the church. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. CDT today.
Memorial Contributions may be made to the Sts. Peter and Paul Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
