Parent-Teacher Club treasurer charged with theftDecember 17, 2018
From Local Sources
JASPER — Authorities allege a former Parent-Teacher Club treasurer at Tenth Street Elementary School stole in excess of $17,000 from a club account between August 2016 and the end of October this year.
A warrant for the arrest of Ellen L. Tubbs, 37, 480 Third Ave., Jasper, was issued out of Dubois Superior Court on Wednesday. It charges her with 10 Level 6 felony counts of theft and seven misdemeanor counts of theft.
Tubbs was not a school corporation employee and the alleged thefts did not involve taxpayer funds.
The Jasper Police Department investigated after a mid-November report of funds that were unaccounted for.
Police allege Tubbs wrote checks from a parent-teacher club account and deposited the money into her own account.
The total of the alleged unauthorized transfers was $17,217.57, according to police.
Tubbs was booked into the Dubois County Security Center on the active warrant at 1:39 p.m. Friday. She posted bond later in the afternoon.
During an initial appearance Friday in Dubois Superior Court, a preliminary plea of not guilty was entered on her behalf and her next appearance was scheduled for Jan. 10.
