JASPER — Damage reached $4,500 when a car and an SUV collided late Wednesday morning at 12th Avenue and Power Drive.
Charles Parker, 50, of 4061 Lee Drive, was eastbound on 12th Avenue in a 1998 Mercury Sable at the time of the 11:24 a.m. accident, according to the Jasper Police Department.
Police said Parker’s car collided with a 1998 Chevrolet Suburban that had been northbound on Power Drive before it attempted a left turn onto 12th Avenue. Gerard Schmitt, 75, of 5027 W. Serm Lane, who was driving the Suburban, told police he failed to see Parker’s car in time to prevent a collision.
Damage was estimated at $4,000 to Schmitt’s Suburban and $500 to Parker’s Sable.
Police cited Schmitt for failing to yield the right of way.
DUFF — Units of the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department responded to an outdoor fire Wednesday night at the Steve Rauscher property at 6100 E. Duff Road Southeast.
Fire Chief Scott Patberg said there had been a controlled burn on the farm property earlier in the day. Rauscher had thought it was out but it later rekindled. The fire was reported by a passerby, Patberg said.
Three trucks and 12 firefighters were on the scene for about 90 minutes.
