Football sectional pairings unveiled
October 8, 2020Local football teams learned on Thursday the road they will take during the 2020 sectional.
Jasper is in Sectional 24, and the Wildcats will play Evansville Central in the opener.
The Wildcats fell to the Bears, 24-17, earlier this season on Sept. 25, and also 27-16 in the sectional semifinal Nov. 1, 2019. A win for Jasper would mean it would play Boonville in the semifinals. If the Wildcats win that, they would play either Evansville Reitz, Evansville Memorial, Evansville Harrison or Northview.
Forest Park’s path to a sectional championship in Sectional 40 also begins with an opportunity for revenge. The Rangers would get a look at the North Knox team that shut them out, 25-0, in last year’s semifinal.
Forest Park would either meet South Spencer or Evansville Mater Dei in the semifinal with a win. If the Rangers get to their first sectional championship in program history, they’d play one of North Posey, Crawford County, Tell City or Linton-Stockton in the title game.
Heritage Hills and Southridge cannot meet for a sectional championship again this year, but they could meet in the Sectional 32 semifinal.
The Patriots will get a look at Gibson Southern for the third year in a row, and try to avenge a 38-0 loss to the Titans from Sept. 25.
Southridge will have a look at Mt. Vernon. Evansville Bosse, North Harrison, Corydon Central or Salem would await the Raiders or Patriots if one of them gets to the sectional championship.
