Flora Phillipy, 94, Jasper
October 22, 2020Flora Phillipy, age 94, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 2:45 a.m., on Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at the Good Samaritan Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.

She was born December 23, 1925, to Anthony and Gertrude (Bretz) Schwartz in Bretzville, Indiana, the youngest of a family of eleven. Flora married Robert Phillipy on May 1, 1948, at St. Johns United Church of Christ in Bretzville with Rev. Mehrtens officiating. She was a lifelong, active member of St. Johns Church; Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center Auxiliary; American Legion Post #147 Auxiliary; and volunteered for Angel Worx. Flora enjoyed bowling and was secretary/treasurer of Eastown’s Tuesday Morning Ladies Bowling League for 28 years. She also enjoyed playing cards, watching the Pacers games, crocheting, sending greeting cards, working outside with her flowers, and attending family gatherings with her nieces, nephews, and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Phillipy, on July 17, 2020; her parents; seven brothers, Arthur, Edgar, Alvin, Carl, Gilbert, Elmer and Alfred “Pete” Schwartz; and three sisters, Helen Rademacher, Mildred Welp, and Ardella Meyer.
Flora is survived by nieces and nephews.
Funeral services for Flora Phillipy will be held at 12:00 noon, E.D.T., on Monday, October 26, 2020, at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg. Friends may call for visitation from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon, on Monday, prior to the service. Burial will take place at St. Johns Cemetery in Bretzville, Indiana. Lay Pastor Dan Sergesketter and Steve Oeth will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Johns Cemetery, Ronald McDonald House, or Tri-Cap’s Abused Children’s Program. Due to the health crisis, masks will be required and social distancing observed by everyone attending the services.
