Flag education testing planned

JASPER — Jasper American Legion Post 147 is observing November as Flag Education Testing Month. The major objective of the flag program is to build patriotism in youth and to develop a thorough understanding of proper flag display and courtesy.

The test is open to fourth-grade students at Dubois Elementary School, Tenth Street Elementary School, Ireland Elementary School, Holy Trinity Catholic School and Celestine Elementary School. The top-scoring boy and girl winners of each school will receive certificates and American Legion medallions.

The top Dubois County boy and girl also will receive additional certificates and special American Legion medallions. The Dubois County winners will compete at the 8th District level, and those winners will compete at the state level. The state winners will receive checks for $1,000 during the annual convention at Indianapolis in the spring. Dubois County has had three state winners in the recent past.

This educational and testing program is available for all elementary schools in the state of Indiana to include home-schooled students. The deadline for requesting educational material and testing material is Sept. 28. For further information, contact Chairman Daniel Lawson at 812-661-2440 or dble754@gmail.com.
