From Local Sources

JASPER — Units of the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department responded to the northwest corner of the city when a chemical spill was reported in a residence Monday afternoon.

Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang said the 2:37 p.m. callout was to a residence in the 4300 block of Beth Lane. Occupants safely got outside the residence after less than one-third cup of muriatic acid was spilled on a concrete floor, according to the chief.

Hochgesang said firefighters informed the occupants about proper cleanup and disposal before leaving the scene.

One truck and 19 firefighters were on the scene 10 minutes.
