Firefighters respond to riding mower fire

JASPER — Units of the Jasper Volunteer Fire Department responded Tuesday afternoon when a riding lawn mower caught fire west of the city.

The 2:54 p.m. callout sent firefighters to the Pat Schitter residence at 1649 N. 350W, according to Fire Chief Kenny Hochgesang.

Schitter had just completed mowing his yard when an oil leak ignited, burning up the engine on his Husqvarna riding mower, according to Hochgesang.

One truck and 18 firefighters were on the scene 20 minutes.
