Firefighters respond to convent

From Local Sources

FERDINAND — Units of the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department responded Friday to an alarm activation at the Sisters of St. Benedict, 802 E. 10th St.

There was no fire associated with the 11:51 a.m. callout, according to Fire Chief John Hoppenjans. Instead, he said, firefighters determined a construction company doing grinding work had triggered an alarm.

The department cleaned detectors and successfully reset the system.

Three trucks and seven firefighters were on the scene 25 minutes.
