Firefighters find smoking railroad timber

From Local Sources

HUNTINGBURG — Members of the Huntingburg Volunteer Fire Department responded Thursday afternoon when it was reported that a railroad timber was smoking west of Huntingburg.

The 1 p.m. callout sent the department to tracks on the west side of County Road 400W south of 19th Street.

Fire Chief Scott Patberg said it was believed the smoking timber the department addressed was ignited by rail maintenance work that had reportedly included metal grinding.

Two trucks and six firefighters were on the scene 20 minutes.
