Firefighters extinguish brush fire

From Local Sources

HILLHAM — Units of the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department responded Monday night when a controlled burn west of Hillham got out of control.

Firefighters were called at 8:28 p.m. to a former gas station property at Cuzco Road North and State Road 56 currently owned by Alex Crook of French Lick, according to department public information officer Zach Eichmiller.

Eichmiller said Crook had been burning brush when the fire spread. Firefighters halted the spread of the flames after about one-quarter acre was singed.

Three trucks and 19 firefighters were on the scene less than 30 minutes.
