Firefighters called to Sisters of St. Benedict

From Local Sources

FERDINAND — Units of the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department answered an alarm activation late Tuesday morning at the Sisters of St. Benedict, 802 E. 10th St.

Fire Chief John Hoppenjans said there was no fire associated with the 11:17 a.m. callout. Instead, he added, arriving firefighters found some food on a fifth-floor kitchen’s stove had burned.

The department used an exhaust fan to ventilate the space and successfully reset the system.

Two trucks and nine firefighters were on the scene 30 minutes.
