Firefighters called to construction site, monastery

From Local Sources

FERDINAND — Members of the Ferdinand Volunteer Fire Department were called to a construction site Wednesday and a manufacturing location Thursday.

Neither run involved an actual fire, according to Fire Chief John Hoppenjans.

The first call, at 5:44 p.m. Wednesday, sent the department to the new Scenic Hills at the Monastery construction site at 710 Sunrise Drive.

Firefighters responding to a general fire alarm arrived to find construction personnel were cleaning a floor, which triggered a smoke detector.

The department successfully reset the system.

Four trucks and 13 firefighters were on the scene 15 minutes.

The Ferdinand Police Department assisted.

Then, at 7:31 p.m. Thursday, the department was dispatched to a general fire alarm at MasterBrand Cabinets, 624 W. Third St.

Hoppenjans said maintenance personnel found a dirty smoke detector in Plant No. 22 before firefighters arrived. They cleaned the detector and successfully reset the system, Hoppenjans said.

Four trucks and 15 firefighters were on the scene 20 minutes.

The Ferdinand Police Department also assisted.
