ST. HENRY — Fire destroyed a tractor in a field northwest of St. Henry late Sunday afternoon.
Units of the St. Henry Volunteer Fire Department were called to the David Schwoeppe farm at 10513 S. 200W at 5:58 p.m.
Fire Chief Steve Eckert said a Case DX-90 tractor out in a field was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
The tractor was being used to pull a mowing attachment when it caught fire, according to Eckert. The cause of the fire that started in the engine compartment is unknown.
Firefighters extinguished the fire with water but the tractor was a total loss. The mowing attachment was not harmed, Eckert said.
Three trucks and nine firefighters were on the scene 40 minutes.
