Father, son attend Space Camp

James and Elias Weber of Jasper recently attended Family Space Camp at the US Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Father and son James and Elias Weber, 7, of Jasper attended a three-day Family Space Camp program June 7 to 9 at the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama.

Family Space Camp encompasses simulated mission training and operations, rocket construction and on-site space history in one of the world’s largest spacecraft collections.

The father son duo participated in multiple simulated missions and had the opportunity to train like an astronaut on the Multi-Axis Trainer and the 1/6th Gravity Chair; construct and launch model rockets; and learn about the past, present and future of space exploration, including a meet and greet with a real astronaut, Dr. Don Thomas who has logged over 1,000 hours in space.

James Weber works at Naval Surface Warfare Center Crane and is also a helicopter pilot for the Kentucky Army National Guard. Weber will be in the second grade at Ireland Elementary.
