Fall fest features new events, annual favorites

DALE — Nathan Brittingham has been watching the weather all week.

The 52nd annual Dale Fall Fest is this weekend at the Dale Town Park, and Brittingham, who serves as the event’s publicity chair, doesn’t want another rainy weekend like last year.

“We were standing in water at a lot of our events,” Brittingham said.

This year, though, the weather looks warm and sunny. Good news, since the Dale Fall Fest committee has a lineup filled with activities and performances that kick off today at 5 p.m. CT and wrap up Saturday night at 11 p.m. CT with a grand raffle that will award over $5,000 in prizes.

There are several new events on the schedule, too, including a water ball tournament for the firefighters. The competition involves firefighters shooting fire hoses at a ball suspended on a string in the air to move the ball from side to side. That event takes place at 6 p.m. CT today on Wallace Street west of Witte Feeds.

Other new events are new performances Friday and Saturday evening, but the committee also brought back old favorites such as the AC/DC tribute band Dirty Deeds. That performance is one of Brittingham’s favorite events.

“Those guys are amazing,” he said of the band. “They sound just like AC/DC and look like them, too.”

Brittingham is also excited for the Wonder Wheels BMX Stunt Show that will take place multiple times throughout the weekend. The show was part of last year’s lineup, but most of the performances got rained out. Brittingham caught one of last year’s shows, though, and it did not disappoint.

“It was amazing,” he said.

The festival will also include carnival rides, food booths and live music performances throughout Friday and Saturday. And of course, the annual parade at 2 p.m. CT Saturday. The parade begins on Washington Street by the fire station and will end just past the Dale Town Park.

The festival serves as a fundraiser for the town. Once the committee raises enough to pay for next year’s event, Brittingham said, the rest is donated back to the community throughout the year through contributions to local schools, the library and other community organizations.

“It stays in the community,” Brittingham said. “That’s what it’s all about.”
