Ermilda F. Gehlhausen, 87, Jasper, died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at Northwood Retirement Community in Jasper.
She was born at Adyeville on Dec. 24, 1925, to Hilbert and Verena (Wilmes) Egler. She married Otto Gehlhausen on July 28, 1948, at Saint Meinrad Archabbey in St. Meinrad. He died Dec. 9, 1993.
Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Duncan and husband Larry of Indianapolis and Janice Gehlhausen and husband Mark Schafer of Carmel; three sons, Mel Gehlhausen and wife Martha of St.
Anthony and Randy Gehlhausen and wife Pam and Jerry Gehlhausen and wife Lisa of Jasper; five brothers, Silvanus Egler and wife Darlene of Payson, Ariz., Harold Egler and wife Joyce of Loudon, Tenn., Ambrose Egler of Holland, Mich., Cyril Egler and wife Bonnie of Huntingburg and Jim Egler and wife Doris of Jasper; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sister Virlee Egler, OSB.
Mrs. Gehlhausen was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Jasper and its Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary. She was an assistant and head cook at Holy Family School from 1973 to 1991 and a member of the church quilting group for many years. She enjoyed quilting, playing cards, gardening and cooking.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.
Friends may call from 3:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Becher & Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Sodality of the Blessed Virgin Mary will say a rosary at 3 p.m. Friday.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church or the American Alzheimer’s Association.
