Emergency planners issue exercise reminder

From Local Sources

HUNTINGBURG — Dubois County’s Local Emergency Planning Committee is reminding the public that things will be very busy Saturday morning in and around Farbest Foods, 4689 S. 400W, Huntingburg.

Numerous emergency response agencies will be participating in a full-scale training exercise simulating an anhydrous ammonia leak, according to Dubois County Emergency Management Agency Director Tammy Humbert.

County Road 400W will have numerous emergency responders and emergency vehicles between county roads 450S and 500W during the exercise, so the public is asked to avoid the area on Saturday morning.

Those close to the Farbest facility could hear toned alarms and anyone within earshot of a police scanner could hear traffic about an ammonia cloud and injuries, although those dispatches will all close with a qualifier: “This is an exercise.”
