So far, more than 3,000 people have walked into Dubois County voting locations to cast a ballot, which is a higher than normal turnout for a midterm election

“It is going well, better than we could have hoped,” said Dubois County Clerk Bridgette Jarboe. “We’ve had a really good turnout.”

As of Thursday afternoon, 3,448 people had cast a ballot at early voting sites; that is 11 percent of 30,253 people who are registered to vote in Dubois County. In the last midterm election, in 2014, 2,458 people cast an early ballot, and that included those voting at early polling locations and those submitting a ballot by mail and travel board.

“So we have already surpassed the last midterm election,” Jarboe said. “We are about where we were for the last presidential election, which is shocking.”

The Dubois County Election Board decided last week to open the 35th Street Fire Station for voting this week, a week earlier than planned, because so many people were coming out to vote. As of Thursday, 197 people had voted at the location, an average of about 50 people per day, Jarboe said.

Early voting will end at noon on Monday, Nov. 5, the day before the General Election. Any registered voter in Dubois County can vote at any early voting location in the county. The voter will need his or her photo identification to cast a ballot.
