Earl A. Petry, 94, passed away August 15, 2018, at Oakwood Health Campus in Tell City.
He was born February 1, 1924, to Simon and Elenora (Tempel) Petry in Ferdinand.
At age 1 ½ the family moved to a farm in Siberia. Earl moved to Tell City after marrying Lauretta (Marchal) Hughes on May 2, 1959.
He and his wife owned and operated the Tell Street Liquor Store. He collected clocks and enjoyed Senior Citizen dances and playing euchre. Earl was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Surviving is his twin sister, Irene Fritz of Jasper; five nieces and nephews, David Fritz of Gentryville, Robert Fritz of Siberia, Rosella Beck of Jasper, Barbara Welp of Ferdinand and JoAnn Greenwell of Loogootee.
He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lauretta, on February 12, 2000; a step-daughter, Marsha (Hughes) Nugent, on July 10, 2001; and a brother, Urban, who died at the age of 19.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9 a.m. CT Saturday, August 18, at St. Pius Catholic Church with burial in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. Fr. Sengole Thomas will officiate.
Visitation will be at Zoercher-Gillick Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 17, with a K of C service at 6 p.m. Visitation will also be from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Pius Catholic Church, St. Paul Catholic Church or the K of C.
