PAOLI — A St. Anthony man was treated at the scene for minor injuries today after a dump truck he was driving overturned on U.S. 150 near Log Creek Road west of Paoli and spilled nearly 20 tons of gravel.
According to Indiana State Police Herman R. Epple, 54, St. Anthony, was traveling westbound on US 150, east of Cave Quarry when he became distracted by his cellphone and lost control of his 2003 Sterling dump truck.
Epple’s vehicle overturned, spilling nearly 20 tons of gravel onto the roadway.
Cave Quarry officials offered some of their equipment to help clear the roadway as quickly as possible for motorists.
Epple was treated at the scene for minor injuries. He was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Indiana State Troopers are on scene and being assisted by the Orange County Sheriff's Department, Paoli Fire Department, IU Health EMS, Cave Quarry and the Indiana Department of Transportation.
Both lanes of U.S. 150 are closed until approximately 2 p.m.
