JASPER — A Thursday morning accident at the Dubois County Highway Department’s garage at 1066 State Road 162 created a power outage that knocked out the traffic signal at State Road 162 and Schnellville Road.
Gary R. Betz, 57, St. Anthony, had dumped a load of rock at the county garage at 10:30 a.m. but forgot to lower his truck bed, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
The raised bed struck several wires, breaking off two utility poles that had to be replaced by the Dubois Rural Electric Cooperative.
The sheriff’s department said a neighboring property owner’s bean field was also damaged when a utility crew entered to repair lines.
Total damage was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
