DUBOIS — The Dubois Branch Library has activities scheduled for October.
My Big Person and Me for infants through age 6 with their caregivers will be held from 11 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesdays. Stories and crafts will be featured. Preregistration is required. No get-together on Oct. 22.
Keurig’s Korner will meet after school until 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays. A snack and drink will provided. Play games, do homework or just hang out. Middle and high school students can hang out together. Students are not meeting on Oct. 22.
Geri-Fit classes will be held from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Wednesdays. The class uses strength training for older adults. Participants are asked to bring their own 2-pound weights, a stretch band and water. Preregister for each class.
Chair yoga will be offered from 9:15 to 10 a.m. Fridays. Gentle chair and standing yoga will be offered. There will be floor exercises. Preregister for the month.
Technology help will be provided from 10 a.m. to noon Fridays. Help will be available with any wireless devices.
The first Saturday book sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5. Books, audio books and DVDs are available.
James Whitcomb Riley will pay a visit at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 7. Actor Danny Russel will bring famed Hoosier poet, J. W. Riley, to life. He will recite some of Riley’s famous poems and how they came about, as well as, tell about his life in Indiana. Young and old will enjoy this presentation.
Adult Craft: Halloween Blocks will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8. Create a jack-o-lantern, a ghost and Frankenstein blocks to decorate for Halloween. Preregistration is required.
Elementary and Family Creativity Time: Candy Corn Canvas painting will take place from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, and from 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11. Make a cute candy corn painting to hang for the season. All ages are welcome. Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Each person wanting to make a craft must preregister. Sign up for one class only.
The library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 14, for a staff development day.
Family Night: Discovering Wind will take place from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16. Spend an evening with the kids learning and experimenting with wind and air. Participants will work through different science stations and then make their own hand-held wind sock and a rocket. Preregistration is required. Children under age 8 must be accompanied by an adult.
Blood pressure checks will be given from 10 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 18.
Paint like Bob Ross class will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 19. Brian Sutton will walk you through painting “Campfire” with oils in this four-hour class. Animal Tales presents “Creepy Critters” at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 22, in the community room. Get up close and touch some of the live creepy creatures that will be present. Seating will be limited.
Simply Simple and Delicious Holiday Entertaining will be held at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 23. Delicious doesn’t have to be complicated and entertaining shouldn’t be stressful. This is the motto Ann Knies, owner of Chocolate Bliss & Kitchen Essentials, believes strongly. She will have simple-to-prepare foods to sample and easy entertaining ideas to make the upcoming holidays fun. Preregister by Oct. 21.
Pumpkin decorating will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24. Participants are to bring the pumpkin; the library will supply the paint and decorations.
The End-of-the-Month Book Club will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28. Discussion will be held on “Tornado Weather” by Deborah Kennedy. Stop by the front desk to pick up a copy.
A bats presentation will take place at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29. Whitney Buechler, nature interpreter at Patoka Lake, will teach everyone about Indiana bats and why they are important.
Trick-or-treating will take place from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, at the library. Come dressed up and get a treat.
