Drug arrest follows police K-9 alert

JASPER — Police arrested a man Friday afternoon when drugs were discovered during a traffic stop.

A Jasper Police Department officer stopped a 2000 Mazda occupied by Tommy L. Critchfield, 50, 1730 Leopold St., Jasper, at 12:42 p.m. after noticing Critchfield not wearing a seat belt and traveling slightly over the speed limit on Newton Street near 14th Street.

Police K-9 Mack was brought to the scene for an open air sniff and alerted to the presence of narcotics. Officers then found a syringe and multiple plastic bags containing a total of about 10 grams of methamphetamine. Police also seized $826 that Critchfield was carrying.

Authorities booked Critchfield into the Dubois County Security Center at 4:47 p.m. on preliminary charges of Level 2 felony dealing methamphetamine, Level 4 felony possession of methamphetamine and Level 6 felony unlawful possession of a syringe.
