CELESTINE — The driver in a pickup-truck-versus-tree crash west of Celestine was taken into custody early Saturday.
Cody J. Carlton, 24, Taswell, was southbound on Steinbottom Road north of State Road 164 at the time of the 2:07 a.m. accident, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
Carlton came to a curve in the roadway, encountered a downed tree and struck it with the 2002 Ford F-150 he was driving, according to the sheriff’s office.
A deputy who detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Carlton said his blood alcohol content later tested .13% in a certified test at the Jasper Police Station.
Carlton was booked into the Dubois County Security Center at 3:56 a.m. on a preliminary misdemeanor count of operating while intoxicated. He was released Saturday night.
Total damage in the crash that resulted in air bag deployment was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
