KYANA — A driver attempting to avoid another vehicle coming into her lane of travel stopped in a ditch Friday night north of Kyana.
Thea L. Petry, 16, St. Anthony, was southbound on County Road 700E in a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu when the 10:32 p.m. mishap occurred south of County Road 400S, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
The accident occurred as Petry was driving down a grade in the road and around a slight curve, according to the sheriff’s department.
Petry told a deputy a vehicle approaching northbound came into her lane of travel. To avoid it, she drove slightly off the west side of the roadway and her car stopped in a ditch.
The sheriff’s department said Petry avoided injury and her car was removed from the ditch by relatives.
Damage was estimated to have exceeded $2,500.
