Driver arrested after foot chase

HUNTINGBURG — A motorist in a traffic stop late Saturday night was jailed after a foot chase that concluded with the deployment of a Taser.

A Huntingburg Police Department officer conducted a traffic stop just off Langebrake Drive at 11:37 p.m. after clocking a southbound vehicle on Chestnut Street near First Avenue traveling at 43 mph in the 25 mph zone.

Police allege the driver, Chris M. Ferguson, 52, Huntingburg, exited the vehicle and immediately began walking away from it. When told to stop by an officer, police said, that is when Ferguson took off running.

Police gave chase on foot on the north side of the residence where Ferguson had stopped his vehicle. Police report issuing several commands to stop during the short foot chase that concluded with Ferguson being taken to the ground and subdued with the aid of a Taser stun gun.

A certified chemical test that was part of the ensuing investigation placed Ferguson’s blood alcohol content at .177%.

Authorities booked Ferguson into the Dubois County Security Center at 2:17 a.m. today on preliminary misdemeanor counts of operating while intoxicated and resisting law enforcement.
