Dr. Edith C. Johnson, 79, Jasper
January 26, 2021Dr. Edith "Edie" C. Johnson, age 79, of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 5:03 p.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2021, at Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center in Jasper, Indiana.

Edith was born on October 7, 1941, in Queens Village, New York, to Arthur and Ruth (Moe) Gronberg. Edie married Rev. Edward A. Johnson on August 8, 1981, he preceded her in death on December 6, 1996.
She earned a B.A. in Bible, M.A. in Theology, and a Doctor's degree in Theology.
She was active with Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, served 10 years on the Indiana-Kentucky Synodical Board, ending as president for four years. She served as lay minister, teacher, Bible study leader, and retreat leader. She retired from various office work and church secretarial positions. She also served as choir director at one parish her husband served. She had a God-given talent for a hearing-impaired person.
She enjoyed her computer, television, crossword puzzles, and meeting with friends.
Surviving are two brothers, James Gronberg (Lois), Birchwood, WI and John Gronberg (Judy), Jacksonville, FL, seven nieces and nephews, eight grand nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death beside her husband is one sister, Karen Ruebush.
A graveside service for Dr. Edith C. Johnson will be held at 1pm on Friday, January 29, 2021 at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery - at the Dubois Crossroads.
