Dorothy R. Schum, 89, Saint Meinrad
December 17, 2020Dorothy R. Schum, 89, of Saint Meinrad, passed away Wednesday December 16, 2020, at Scenic Hills at the Monastery.

Dorothy was born February 21, 1931 in Saint Meinrad to John and Mary (Fetter) Fendel. She was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Schum on June 18, 1949 in Saint Meinrad Archabbey Church.
Dorothy was a lifelong member of Saint Meinrad Church, and she was a homemaker. She enjoyed birdwatching, cooking and baking, she was famous for her fried chicken, working in her flower beds (roses were her favorite), making ceramic pieces, being with family and friends and attending country music shows.
Surviving are her husband, Robert “Bob” Schum, two daughters, Donna Hagedorn of Dale, and Becky (Mark) Fella of Santa Claus. Two sons, Larry (Cynthia) Schum of Arizona, and Kenny (Deb) Schum of Bristow. Five grandchildren, Phil (JoAnn), Jason (Martha), Aaron (Sheila) Hagedorn, Amanda (Josh) Kalb, and Colton (Jenny) Schum; ten great-grandchildren and one great great grandson; four sisters-in-laws, Alvina Fendel of Saint Meinrad, Esther Gehlhausen and Verena Tretter of Ferdinand, Beverly Vowels of Evansville; and one brother-in-law, Mike Schum of Dale.
Dorothy was preceded in death by five brothers, Alois, Sylvester, Anthony, Urban, and Albert “Cat” Fendel; two sisters, Marie (Joe) Woebkenberg, and Loraine (Wayne) Simons; and a son-in-law, Albert Hagedorn.
Private services were held Friday at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand. Graveside services were held in Mary Help Of Christians Church/cemetery in Mariah Hill. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Online condolences may be shared at www.becherfuneralhome.com.
