JASPER — Police arrested a driver after an incident Saturday night that found a car submerged at the Kellerville Road bridge by Cathy Lane.

A Jasper Police Department officer attempted a traffic stop at 11:15 p.m. after clocking a northbound vehicle on Meridian Road south of 15th Street traveling at 70 mph in the 35 mph zone.

The officer turned around and was able to observe the suspect vehicle ahead of him passing another vehicle on 15th Street on a double-yellow line before losing sight of the car.

The officer eventually terminated the search for the car, but at 11:24 p.m., authorities were notified of a vehicle in the water off Kellerville Road near Cathy Lane.

Hunter A. Blane, 19, 5151 N. Kellerville Road, Jasper, who was identified as the driver, and a female passenger had been able to get out of the car, according to authorities.

Police said Blane declined transport, while the female passenger was transported for treatment after complaining of pain.

A Dubois Rural Electric utility pole was broken during the accident.

Department of Natural Resources conservation officers who are public safety divers helped recover the car from the waterway Sunday.

Authorities booked Blane into the Dubois County Security Center at 4:21 a.m. Sunday on preliminary charges of Level 6 felony criminal recklessness and resisting law enforcement with a vehicle, plus misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief and reckless driving. Police said Blane was also cited for speeding and improper passing.
