IRELAND — A distraction factored into an accident early Sunday just west of Jasper that injured the driver.
James A. Blunk, 32, Ireland, was eastbound on County Road 150N in a 1987 Mercury passenger car when the 1:12 a.m. accident occurred west of State Road 56, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
Blunk told a deputy he was reaching for his cellphone when his vehicle went into a ditch on the south side of the roadway and stopped when it struck a tree.
The sheriff’s department reported Blunk suffered minor cuts and scrapes. A friend took him to Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center where, according to a hospital spokeswoman, he was treated and released.
Damage was estimated to have exceeded $2,500.
