Dine with a Doc looks at sleep apnea

JASPER — Home Instead will host Dine with a Doc from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 1971 State Road 56.

Memorial Hospital and Health Care Center’s Internal Medicine’s Shawn Valuch, PA, will present “Sleep Apnea — What’s the Big Deal?” Sleep apnea is a condition in which the upper airway becomes blocked repeatedly during sleep and the airflow is reduced or completely stops.

Valuch earned his physician assistant degree from Chicago City Wide College. He has worked at Memorial’s Internal Medicine for the past 21 years (also previously known as Internal Medicine of Dubois County). Physician assistants are licensed to diagnose and treat illness and disease and to prescribe medication for patients.

Senior Education Ministries has partnered with Home Instead to offer Dine with a Doc. The free program welcomes the local senior public to hear an educational topic, while enjoying a complimentary lunch. This event is presented free of charge by partnership of Memorial Hospital and Home Instead Senior Care. A free lunch is provided by Oakwood Health Campus and door prizes from Home Instead Senior Care will be given away to attendees. To preregister for the sleep apnea program, call Home Instead’s Haley Neukam at 812-482-3311 by March 14.
