Deputy works truck-vs-deer accident

JASPER — No wrecker was needed after a Tuesday morning truck-versus-deer collision southeast of Jasper.

Fred E. Englert, 56, Birdseye, was westbound on Schnellville Road in a 2003 Chevrolet when the 3:19 a.m. accident occurred west of St. Anthony Road North, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.

A sheriff’s department sergeant reported Englert’s Chevrolet collided with a deer that came onto the roadway from the south.

Damage to the driver-side front of the vehicle was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500 but Englert was able to drive from the scene.
