Dennis O. ‘Peanut’ Opel, 76, of Jasper

Dennis  O. “Peanut” Opel, 76, of Jasper, passed away at 8:51 p.m. on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at the Timbers of Jasper.

Dennis was born on July 5, 1942, in Jasper to Lee F. and Florence (Street) Opel.

He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, and a member of the VFW Post #673 and the American Legion Post #147.  He was also a member of the Jasper Moose Lodge #1175.

Dennis worked for many years for Kimball International and then retired from Dubois Wood Products.

He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and spending time with friends and family.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Jacob (Nathan), Jasper, and Susan Nicastro (Phil), Jasper; three sons, Brian Opel, Chandler, Mark Opel, Jasper, and Daniel Opel, Jasper; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Patricia Meyer, Jasper; and one brother, George Opel (Pat), Haysville.

Preceding him in death were his parents and two brothers, Wayne and Donald Opel.

Funeral services for Dennis “Peanut” Opel will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, November 9, 2018, at the Becher- Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper, with burial to follow at Community Cemetery in Haysville. Pastor Tim Holt will officiate. The VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites.

A visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at the Becher-Kluesner North Chapel in Jasper. The Jasper Moose Lodge will perform a memorial service at 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
