JASPER — No injuries were reported when a deer ran into a car’s lane of travel Tuesday night along a highway north of Jasper.
Elaine M. Hopf, 74, Jasper, was southbound on U.S. 231 in a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu when the 9:15 p.m. accident occurred 100 feet from Old Road 45, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department.
A deputy said Hopf spotted a deer standing in the northbound land of the highway as she came over a hill crest.
As she attempted to slow, a deputy reported, the animal moved into her lane of travel and was struck by her car.
Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500 but the car was able to be driven from the scene.
