IRELAND — A sheriff’s deputy said a deer was killed when it collided with a car Saturday afternoon just west of Ireland.
Michael D. Weiland, 35, Washington, was westbound on State Road 56 in a 2015 Honda Accord when the 3:25 p.m. accident occurred one-tenth of a mile east of County Road 550W, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy said a deer jumped off a hillcrest on the north side of the highway, striking the passenger-side front of the car. The deer then rolled over the Honda’s windshield, shattering it.
Damage was estimated to have exceeded $5,000.
