Deer jumps in front of Ford Taurus

PATOKA LAKE — A Crawford County man was able to drive his car away from the scene of a Friday morning collision with a deer west of Patoka Lake.

Charles R. Harkness, 71, Eckerty, was westbound on State Road 164 in a 2006 Ford Taurus when the 5:30 a.m. accident occurred east of County Road 1025E, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy reported that the Harkness Ford collided with a deer that jumped onto the highway from the north side of the roadway.

Damage was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
