FERDINAND — An Orange County motorist escaped injury when a deer collided with his SUV late Thursday night north of Ferdinand.
Jeffrey S. Leonhard, 33, West Baden Springs, was northbound on State Road 162 in a 2009 Subaru Forester when the 11:50 p.m. accident occurred near County Road 815S, according to the Dubois County Sheriff’s Office.
A deputy said Leonhard’s SUV struck a deer that entered onto the highway from the west, with the deer hitting the Forester’s driver’s-side doors.
Damage was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
The vehicle was able to be driven from the scene.
