Daughters of Isabella Jasper Circle #140April 20, 2021
Daughters of Isabella Jasper Circle #140 met for their monthly meeting on Monday, April 12, 2021, at the St. Joseph Church Parish Center in Jasper. Regent Marge Beckman called the meeting to order. The Prayer was read by Vice Regent Kathy Schneider for the absent Chancellor Bev Himsel. The opening Ode and Pledge of Allegiance followed.
Draping of the Charter was held for recently deceased members Alberta Sturgeon, Jane Gardner and Alice Niehaus. A rosary was said by those present at the meeting for recently deceased members that may not have had a rosary said at the funeral home. A prayer for membership was read by vice Regent Schneider, followed by special intentions expressed by members. Secretary Pam Schneider called the roll of officers. She then read minutes from the November meeting. That was the last meeting held before the meetings were again canceled due to COVID. Treasurer Rose Rasche gave the Report of the Treasurer. Scribe Kathy Bachman read Resolutions on the deaths of Alberta Sturgeon, Jane Gardner and Alice Niehaus. A copy of the Resolutions will be sent to the families of the deceased. A Board meeting will be held on May 10, 2021, at 5 p.m.
A report of the Standing and Special Committees was given. Visitation by members to visit members in the nursing homes has been curtailed since the beginning of COVID. The Circle would like to begin visitation starting in June 2021. Information on Masses beginning on second Wednesday for Good Samaritan Nursing Home residents was given and the Masses will be held May 12 at 2 p.m. Discussion on resuming distribution of communion to Catholics at Good Samaritan was held. It will be held every Wednesday.
Under unfinished business, the Circle fundraiser of helping at the Moose Bingos was updated by Kathy Schneider. The Circle will again work on April 30, from about 5 to 8:30 p.m. Under New Business, the Board decided against holding the Mother’s Day Dinner due to COVID concerns and restrictions of number of people able to attend an event. Health safety issues of all is a concern. The members presented approved a motion to move the time of the regular meeting from 7 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The annual Memorial Mass to recognize our deceased members will be held on Tuesday, April 20, at 6:30 p.m. at St. Joseph Church, Jasper. Being remembered are: Matilda “Tillie” Burger, Doris V. Gutzweiler, Margaret J. Steffen, Aline Brescher, Patricia A. “Pat” Braun, Dorothy M. Schnaus, Mary Catherine Mehringer, Bridget T. Dwyer, Liseta T. Buechler, Louise H. “Lou” Schitter, Dolores D. Bauer, Diane S. Hasenour, Marie E. Denu, Beulah C. Gramelspacher, Mercedes S. Spellmeyer, Frieda W. Bellner Messmer, Gloria I. Buecher, Lucille J. Schilling, Fern Bonifer, Patricia S. “Pat” Schroeder, Alice S. Apple, Alberta Sturgeon, Martha Jane Gardner, and Alice A. Niehaus.
Discussion was held on celebrating the Jasper Circle’s 100th Anniversary in 2022. It was decided to celebrate at the Christmas Dinner in December 2021. Regent Beckman brought forth a discussion of supporting St. Joseph Church’s Our Time Capital Campaign Building Project. The circle has a long history of supporting church and civic appeals. It was decided to pledge $4,000. It will be spread out over three years. Parishes that make up the Jasper Circle are invited to request a pledge from the Circle, also, for building or capital Campaigns that benefit their parish.
Kathy Schneider read information on the First Commandment for the Good of the Order. Regent Beckman read a letter from Indiana State Regent Mary Siebert. She relayed the information that the State Convention is postponed until October and the Spring Fling will be moved to the state convention. Financial Secretary Betty Mehringer and assistant Financial Secretary Chris Schuetter thanked the membership for responding to the request to pay dues and they report that only a few memberships remain to be paid at the present time. Financial secretary Betty Mehringer gave the report on the receipts of the meeting.
Members closed the meeting with the Obligation, reading of Peace Has a Face, and the Closing Ode. Rose Rasche won the birthday prize. Kathy Schneider won the meeting prize. The next meeting will be Monday, May 10, at 6:30 p.m., in Room 301, at the St. Joseph Church Parish Center, Jasper. The Board has a special meeting at 5 p.m. that night in Room 301.
